Legend has it that Archbishop Hatto, a particularly nasty person, retreated to this tower after burning many common folk to death. Here, he was eaten alive by mice. Later used as a custom collection tower.
They seem to just grow out of the rock
Couldn't quite figure this one out. Perhaps a B&B since there are people standing at the foot of the round tower.
And, of course, a church

This appeared to be part of the city wall and may have been a lookout tower and troop station.

Quite a collection of architecturally diverse structures in one small village.
Not sure if it is a remnant of the city wall or whether it served another purpose, but these round towers appear everywhere.

Many castles along the Rhine, some. like this one, looking more like "country estates".

A common sight along the Rhine - small villages colourfully strung along the banks of the river.
A castle transformed
While the main building is impressive, I was wondering what the ruins are behind it. What is left of a castle? Does that gateway lead into the side of the hill?
